Every five years, Cary prepares the Consolidated Plan is submitted to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) as part of the funding process for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). Cary’s Consolidated Plan identifies and prioritizes housing, community and economic development needs and strategies, focusing primarily on the needs of low- and moderate-income residents. The statutory goals of the Consolidated Plan are to provide decent housing, a suitable living environment and economic opportunities for low- and moderate-income residents.

Cary Housing Funding Prioritization Survey- Cary is projected to receive over $700,000 next year and $3.5 million in federal funding over the next five years and is gathering community input to guide how these funds, as well as local dollars, will be used. Regional Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing Choice- In conjunction with preparation of the 2025-2030 Consolidated Plan, Cary is partnering with Wake County, the City of Raleigh, and the Raleigh Housing Authority development of a regional Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing Choice (AI for short). The AI process involves a review of each jurisdiction’s housing and housing-related programs and policies to ensure they are implemented free from discrimination. Public engagement opportunities including a Fair Housing Survey and regional community meetings coming soon.
