• Nonprofit Capacity Building

Cary’s Nonprofit Capacity Building program provides nonprofits working in housing and community development with scholarships.

Program details

Nonprofits are an integral part of the Cary community. When nonprofit organizations have a strong foundation and manage themselves well, they can focus more wholly on the services and support they bring to Cary residents. In addition to Cary’s ongoing financial support of many organizations through grants, Cary knows it must equip nonprofits with best practices to empower them to best serve the people of Cary. In fact, providing capacity building opportunities for nonprofits is a key initiative of the Cary Housing Plan.

Therefore, Cary has partnered with the North Carolina Center for Nonprofits to create the first Cary Nonprofit Capacity Building Program. This program will provide Cary nonprofits with scholarships to the Center’s Nonprofit Management Institute for the Spring of 2023. The Institute enables a virtual learning cohort of nonprofit executives, managers, and board leaders to assess their organizations’ management practices, identify successes and challenges, build capacity where there are gaps, and work towards long-term sustainability.

In addition to the six sessions that make up the Institute, the Cary Nonprofit Capacity Building Program scholarship will also include sessions on Strategic Communications and Partnerships & Collaboration, specifically curated to the needs of the Cary community.

The first program cohort convened in Spring 2023. The participating nonprofit organizations include: Dorcas Ministries, The Carying Place, HOPE North Carolina, Heart of Cary Association, Bridge II Sports, Kiran, Communities in Schools, and White Oak Foundation.

Continuing Education

Participants who complete the Cary Nonprofit Capacity Building Program and graduate with a certificate are eligible to apply the fifteen credit hours earned towards the Duke University Certificate in Nonprofit Management.
