White Oak Foundation Celebrates Grand Opening of Mixed-Income Townhome Community

Community leaders, residents, and project partners gathered June 10 to celebrate the grand opening of White Oak Foundation’s new mixed-income townhome development, expanding affordable homeownership opportunities in Cary. 

The development includes 30 townhomes, with 15 reserved for homebuyers earning 80% or less of the Area Median Income (AMI). Supported in part by a $1 million award from the Town of Cary, the project advances goals outlined in the Imagine Cary Community Plan and Cary Housing Plan by increasing housing choices and creating new pathways to homeownership. 

The townhomes are the latest addition to the White Oak Foundation campus, a resident-focused development that has steadily grown since receiving rezoning approval in 2018. What began as White Oak’s vision for community investment has evolved into a campus that now includes a Community Resource Center and childcare services 

Today, the campus serves as a hub where residents can access a wide range of resources, including healthcare, childcare, food assistance, rental assistance, homebuyer counseling, youth and senior programming, and now affordable homeownership opportunities. The development reflects White Oak Foundation’s mission of “Caring for the Total Person” by connecting housing with the services and support residents need to thrive. Including the $1 million in support for the townhomes, Cary has invested approximately $3 million over several years toward the development of housing opportunities and supportive resources for residents on this campus. 

“White Oak Foundation has been a longtime partner in expanding housing opportunities and strengthening neighborhoods,” said Mayor Pro Tem Lori Bush. “This development is an investment not only in housing, but in the long-term success and stability of our community.” 

Council Member Sarika Bansal provided remarks during the ceremony. Additional Cary Town Council members in attendance included Michelle Craig, Bella Huang, and Brittany Richards. The event highlighted the public-private partnerships and long-term investments that helped bring the development from vision to reality.
